Zack Slick

hey there

nick here. it’s been a while since i’ve written to you. and by you i mean the ethereal entity that is the internet including but not limited too my small audience of curious folk

it’s been a heck of a year thus far. i’ve found myself going through a great deal of change. i’m now working at a local telemedia center and i have the opportunity to really develop my voice, learn technologies and teach others how to use those technologies to cultivate their own voice.

i’m very excited to teach a couple workshops in the next couple weeks. the first one is going to be a class on adobe spark. it’s pretty accessible and has a free version. and is a really great tool, i think in learning the language of Adobe’s creative suite which is just super powerful for any self starter. this idea of branding yourself.

also you might realize i’m just rambling a little bit. i want to de-emphasize in my blog posts the need for a fully composed fully realized letter and go for something a little bit more stream of conscious. i think i’ll probably get a lot more writing done that way and worry amore about content than form.

woops was just texting lost my train of thought.

right okay yes soooo- I wanted to talk about-

Martian Radio

So there’s a pretty good chance that I can start experimenting with a tv show format which makes sense in the direction we’re going. i’m obsessed with trying different media and want to get a solid product out of each one before i croak. i’m not sure what i’m gonna do with the pastoral elegy but i will try my darndest. but yeah, i have access to some equipment and can apply for a time slot on public access which i think would be v cool.

i’ve also made slow headway into Exterminator. for those of you who aren’t familiar, i got a 3K grant this year to produce a radio drama so ive decided to make a scifi family drama. i wrote a rough draft a couple years ago and hack at segments and scenes, but i had some actors do some readings and i think i’ll be able to build the momentum i need for that real quick.

oh and we have an outdoor skit scheduled for July 10th for some fun promotion!

fresh beets

Savannah from Fresh Beets set up this really cool outdoor festival in Lowell at Kerouac Park. it’s a wicked cool set up. there’s these like cargo shipment things and one has the wall come out as like a stage and another pops out and then it’s like fresh beets serving ya tacos.

i recorded a bit of footage and some pics but my DSLR work was not very sharp that day. Lowell Spin was kind enough to pick one of my pics for their photo of the month though. the picture i chose depicts Zack Slik who is a super talented multi-instrumentalist. last time i saw him was at ward years ago at this point. bought one of his cd’s but i lost the gosh tootin thing so i’ll have to buy another one. dangit coulda done it then. Kali Stoddard performed afterward and Spins and Needles laid down records in between. They got four more events coming up and on July 10th i’m going to have some of my og actors perform a skit or two. check out their event page for more info about where and when.

LGBTQ+ Storytellers

I’m doing a couple more projects for work, but one that you or a friend might be interested in participating in is an LGBTQ+ storytelling night hosted by my coworkerr. I’m going to prepare a video by doing interview with queer folk and set up half an hour slots for interviews to engage in some lovely dialogue around the topic. If you’re interested shoot an email to martianradiotheatre@gmail.com or thru social media.

it’s been a while since i’ve felt this free to pursue my projects and have most of my bases covered. it’s actually kind of an uncomfortable feeling because i’m used to the best of times being fleeting. i don’t despair though. i just try to stay busy and do good work. leave a comment if you want to chat about any of these projects or if you’ve been working on anything neat yourself!
